On April 6, 1985, more than 5000 radio stations around the world
simultaneously played the charity single "We Are the World." It saw some
of the biggest names of music come together to record a song for the
famine-stricken African populace. More than 10 million copies of the
single were sold. Let’s have a look where these famous artists are now.
Quincy JonesJones served as the producer
and conductor of “We Are the World,” which went on to win the Record of
the Year at the Grammy Awards in 1986. Following the charity single, he
continued to work on albums including “Back on the Block” (1989), “Miles
& Quincy Live at Montreux” (1993), “From Q with Love” (1999) and “Q
Soul Bossa Nostra” (2010). In his 60-year-long career, Jones has earned
28 Grammys and a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame among other
laurels. His autobiography titled “Q: The Autobiography of Quincy Jones”
was published in 2001. Jones is also involved with a number of
charities, including the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP), Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation
(GLAAD) and AMerican Foundation for Aids Research (AmfAR).
