The family of a man who is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend
before jumping to his death wants to raise awareness of mental health
issues in the wake of Friday’s homicide. Chicago police said a woman was
stabbed multiple times about 7 p.m. in her apartment in the 3000 block
of South King Drive. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later
identified her as Julia Martin, 28. The office also identified
35-year-old Rodney Harvey as having died from injuries suffered in the
fall. Chicago police believe Harvey stabbed Martin before killing
himself. Both were pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Martin’s father, Derrick Martin of Detroit, said his daughter intended
