50 Cent is trying yet again to sell the gargantuan 1980s Connecticut mansion that he’s had listed off and on for about a decade. This time he’s asking $8.5 million — less than half his original list price.
The poor guy’s been trying to sell it since at least 2007 (then asking $18.5 million). He bought it from Mike Tyson’s ex in 2003 for $4.1 million.
Just a couple of months ago, we reported that 50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson, was petitioning a bankruptcy judge to let him rent the place out and generate some income. His lawyer claimed that mansion upkeep alone was costing the rapper/actor $67,000 a month.
Potential buyers might want to be aware, though, that every owner of the house has experienced financial ruin after moving in. The real estate mogul who built it in ‘85 lost the house after being sentenced to prison for bankruptcy fraud; the next owner sold it to boxer Mike Tyson after suffering crippling financial problems; and Tyson lost the house to his ex-wife in a big divorce settlement that precipitated his own bankruptcy filing.
The 20(ish)-bedroom house is thought to be one of the biggest in the nation, though at 50,000 square feet it’s scarcely half the size of Florida’s notorious still-in-progress Versailles.
